Pulitzer-prize winning art critic Jerry Saltz has had it with NFTs.
He tweeted last Monday:
“I have found that about 90% of the people in the space of AI and NFT infatically [sic] DO NOT want criticism. Their reactions to it prove it. I tried. And tried. One guy hit me on my wrist when I walked past him on Hudson Street & West 12th St. And yelled something about NFTs. Sigh.”
If you don’t know who Saltz is, he’s been the senior art critic at New York Magazine since 2006. But just because he’s a mainstream critic in the traditional art world doesn’t mean that he’s predisposed to hate all crypto art — in fact, in a Vulture piece from 2021, he writes, “Someday, there may…

Google has announced an update to its crypto ad policy.
The update will allow advertisers to offer US ads for “Cryptocurrency Coin Trusts” starting Jan. 29 of next year.
Google defines the trusts as “financial products that allow investors to trade shares in trusts holding large pools of digital currency.” Google did not immediately respond to a Blockworks request for clarification on the example.
Right now, Google’s policy allows ads for NFT games, companies that accept crypto and licensed providers of crypto exchanges and wallets.
Initial coin offerings (ICOs), gambling ads and staking NFT games are prohibited.
Back in September, Google loosened its policy around NFT…

The Fear Greed Index is a popular tool used by investors to gauge the market’s emotional temperature. It operates on a simple principle: when extreme fear permeates the market, it often signals that investors are excessively apprehensive. Conversely, extreme greed may suggest that the market is overextended and could be on the cusp of a correction. The fear & greed index analyzes a variety of data, including market volatility, momentum, options markets, junk bond demand, stock price breadth, and market surveys.

X-Spot Global Limited, a company owned by Huobi Global exchange (now HTX) co-founder Leon Li, has won an injunction against Huobi Global for the latter to cease its use of the Chinese-equivalent “Huobi” trademark in Hong Kong.
According to a recent decision with the Hong Kong High Court, the HTX exchange will be barred from using the trademark name Huobi (火幣) and the Chinese business name “火必,” which is “confusingly similar” to the English trademark in Hong Kong, pending a final trial on the matter. Presiding judge Mimmie Chan J wrote:
“At this stage, I am unable to see any arguable defence to the Plaintiff’s claim of trademark infringement, and as Counsel for the Plaintiff… Read more on Cointelegraph
The “bitcoin uses fossil fuels” argument has been increasingly breaking down in the face of new data from Bloomberg Intelligence showing the network is in fact the most sustainable-energy backed industry on the planet with 53% energy coming from sustainable sources.
In response to this news, a new attack vector has emerged: “Bitcoin uses too much water”. Apparently if Bitcoin uses fossil fuel as its energy source it is bad, but if it uses hydro it is also bad: it’s the same double-bind that 17th Century witch-hunters used to determine whether a woman was a witch: “Throw her in the water. If she can swim, she’s a witch – execute her. If she drowns and cannot swim, that…

In a subtle yet significant move, Google has quietly adjusted its Crypto Ad Guidelines, ahead of the anticipated launch of a Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) in the US.
Beginning January 29, 2024, the search giant’s revised policy will permit advertisers offering “Cryptocurrency Coin Trusts” targeting the United States, provided they meet specific requirements and gain Google’s certification.
This development marks a notable shift from Google’s historically cautious stance toward cryptocurrency-related advertisements. The company had previously imposed embargoes on all manner of crypto ads, citing concerns about potential fraud and misleading promotions. However, as the crypto landscape…
