Safe social recovery eases private key management

Wallet infrastructure provider Safe has collaborated with digital asset bank Sygnum and cryptocurrency recovery group CoinCover, to introduce Safe{RecoveryHub} — a handful of social recovery options for crypto wallets.

Lost or forgotten private keys has left an estimated $1.92 billion worth of ether in the lurch. When a user first signs up for a crypto wallet, they generate a public key — a string of random letters and numbers — with which they can receive crypto, and a private key, used to send or otherwise prove ownership of the tokens by cryptographically signing transactions.

Tether Freezes Funds in 41 Wallets, Citing ‘Precautionary Measures’

Tether, the issuer of the largest stablecoin by market capitalization, USDT, has frozen 41 digital asset wallets associated with United States sanctions. As per the official announcement, Tether freezes funds within these wallets because they were using Torado Cash, a digital asset mixing platform.

In a December 9 blog post, Tether stated that it seeks to “initiate a new voluntary wallet-freezing policy designed to combat activity connected with sanctioned persons on the Office of Foreign Assets Control’s (OFAC) Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) List.” The firm added that it aims to provide a “secure and reliable environment” for its users around the globe.

Argentine crypto influencers hope Javier Milei will shun FATF Travel Rule

After libertarian Javier Milei was sworn into the presidential office in Argentina on Dec. 10, the local crypto community is hoping he’ll keep some of his most radical promises and take the country to the same level of crypto adoption as his counterpart Nayib Bukele did with El Salvador. 

On the day of his inauguration, Latin American outlet Cryptonoticias published “three requests to Milei from the Bitcoin community.” The vice president of the NGO Bitcoin Argentina, Camilo Jorajuría, called for Milei to respect the privacy of his people and not introduce the “draconian measures” of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Nvidia plans Vietnam expansion for AI development

Nvidia, one of the market’s leading developers of artificial intelligence (AI) chips, announced its intentions to expand partnerships in Vietnam and set up a base in the country after a visit from the company’s CEO. 

Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO, said Vietnam is already a partner of the company, as it is home to millions of its clients and Nvidia has already invested $250 million in Vietnam.

“Vietnam and Nvidia will deepen our relations, with Viettel, FPT, Vingroup, VNG being the partners Nvidia looks to expand partnership with.”

Crypto exchange HTX see outflows top $258M following exploit

Crypto investors have been moving their assets away from crypto exchange HTX (formerly known as Huobi) following a Nov. 22 exploit that saw the exchange pause its services and lose a total of $30 million. 

Between Nov. 25 — the day that HTX resumed its services — and Dec. 10, the exchange witnessed some $258 million in net outflows, according to data from DefiLlama.

DefiLlama data shows HTX’s reserves comprise 32.3% Bitcoin (BTC) and 31.8% Tron (TRX). TRX is the native currency of the Tron network, a blockchain launched by Sun in 2017.
