Tornado Cash plaintiffs seek appeals after federal court losses

Despite recent losses in court, interested parties and crypto industry players are not giving up their fight against Tornado Cash sanctions. 

Plaintiffs in two cases are bringing their battle against the US Treasury Department to federal appellate courts. Joseph Van Loon, along with five other self-identified “Ethereum blockchain users” sued the US Treasury Department, Secretary Janet Yellen, the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and OFAC Director Andrea Gacki in September 2022.

Goldman, BNP Paribas lead Fnality’s $95M round

Blockchain payments startup Fnalityhas raised a new $95 million funding round.

Goldman Sachs and BNP Paribas led the round. Euroclear, DTCC, WisdomTree and Nomura also participated.

The company is known for creating tokenized versions of major currencies, which are collateralized by cash held at central banks. So far, it has tokenized fiat currencies including US dollars, euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars, and Japanese yen.

Popular centralized exchange OKX is launching its very own zkEVM (zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine) layer-2 network testnet using Polygon’s chain development kit (CDK) today.

The network, named X1, will mark the centralized exchange’s first steps into building and developing its own on-chain environment.

According to information available on DeFiLlama, OKX is one of the largest centralized exchanges today, with total assets of over $12 billion.

Bim Afolami takes the reins on UK crypto policy as new Economic Secretary

King Charles II has approved the appointment of Member of Parliament Bim Afolami to the position of Economic Secretary to the Treasury of the United Kingdom.

Disney launches NFT platform with Dapper Labs

Disney has created a nonfungible tokens (NFT) platform together with blockchain and metaverse firm Dapper Labs.

According to the November 14 announcement, Disney will tokenize its iconic cartoon characters from the past century onto its NFT marketplace dubbed “Disney Pinnacle.” The platform will also include icons from Pixar as well as heroes and villains from the Star Wars galaxy, uniquely styled as collectible and tradable digital pins. “Fans anywhere will be able to collect dynamic pins on their phone and trade instantly and securely with each other no matter where they are in the world,” Dapper Labs’ CEO Roham Gharegozlou explained.
