NEW: Google Allows Bitcoin ETF Advertisements In Landmark Policy Shift

Google has ushered in a significant development for the cryptocurrency sector by enabling advertisements for Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on its search engine, effective since January 29. This strategic move aligns with Google’s December 2023 policy update, providing clarity on advertising guidelines for cryptocurrency trusts. The revised policy allows certified advertisers to target U.S. audiences with their cryptocurrency products and services. The global application of this policy marks a more inclusive approach to cryptocurrency-related advertisements on the platform. This adjustment signifies a departure from Google’s comprehensive ban on crypto-related ads implemented in 2018, a measure intended to address concerns about risks and fraud in the then-unregulated cryptocurrency market. The reintroduction of crypto ads, subject to stringent certification requirements, indicates the maturation of the industry, a heightened level of regulatory clarity, and an increasing recognition of digital currencies as a legitimate asset class.

European securities regulator seeks limits on non-EU crypto firms

The European Securities and Markets Authority drafted guidelines prioritizing crypto firms in the European Union over outside firms.

The consultation paper, published Monday, seeks comments on the proposed guidelines that aim to offer clarity under the Markets in Crypto Asset (MiCA) rules passed last year.

“In order to make sure that clients of [crypto asset service providers] benefit from full rights and protections afforded to them under MiCA and that EU CASPs are not put at a competitive disadvantage compared to third-country firms vis-à-vis EU clients,” the paper said.

“It is important to actively protect EU-based investors and MiCA-compliant CASPs from undue incursions…

Google Revises Guidelines To Allow Bitcoin ETFs To Advertise Their Products

Today, Google has revised its advertising guidelines, now permitting cryptocurrency trusts, such as Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), to promote their products. Spot Bitcoin ETF issuers such as BlackRock and Franklin Templeton have wasted no time in marketing their fund, with advertisements already starting to emerge.

This revision comes at an interesting time as the discussion around Bitcoin ETFs continues to gains momentum, after the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the first batch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the country. Google’s decision to allow advertising for Bitcoin ETFs provides these financial instruments with a much broader reach and exposure to a wider…

BlackRock's Spot Bitcoin ETF Volume Topping GBTC Today, Signaling Market Shift

For the first time since launch, BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF is outpacing the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) in terms of trading volume so far today, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart.

BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF volume surpassing GBTC for the first time hints at a slow down in outflows for Grayscale’s ETF, which has had over $5 billion in outflows since launch. As highlighted below, the other spot Bitcoin ETFs have had total gross inflows of over $5.8 billion.

This trend could mark a significant shift in suggesting that the selling of GBTC is weakening, thus easing their current massive selling pressure of Bitcoin. Other spot Bitcoin ETFs have experienced large amounts…
