The quest for a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) has been a protracted journey, marked by highs and lows. 

In fact, those excited that a Bitcoin spot ETF approval could take place as soon as January may be shocked to know the initial attempt at a Bitcoin ETF dates back to July 2013 .

That’s when investors Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, then best known for their controversial role in creating Facebook, first proposed the Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust, an exchange-traded vehicle that would open up Bitcoin to institutional investors.

MicroStrategy buys more bitcoin ahead of bitcoin ETF deadline

MicroStrategy continues to load up on bitcoin with a purchase of 14,620 bitcoin.

The company shelled out $615 million for its most recent purchase, meaning that it’s spent nearly $1.2 billion on bitcoin since November. Previous disclosures, filed at the end of November, showed that the company bought roughly 16,000 bitcoin for nearly $600 million.

MicroStrategy Chairman and former CEO Michael Saylor posted on X that the company acquired its bitcoin at an average price of $31,168. In total, it’s spent roughly $5.9 billion for its 189,150 bitcoin.

Mt. Gox Finally Start Paying Creditors After 10 Years

Creditors of the now-defunct digital asset trading platform Mt. Gox are finally witnessing the initiation of the compensation process for their long-blocked Bitcoin deposits after enduring a decade of uncertainty and numerous delays.

Cryptos slip while stocks hold steady for end-of-year rally 

Crypto prices experienced a decline on Tuesday but are still on track to conclude the year with significant gains. Meanwhile, stock markets have maintained their upward momentum during the holiday period.

Bitcoin and ether faltered Tuesday, losing 3% and 2%, respectively. Bitcoin (BTC) remains up over the month, posting a 13% gain in the past 30 days at time of publication. Ether (ETH) is up close to 8% since late November.
