LATEST: Cleanspark Expands Bitcoin Mining to Mississippi, Eyes Significant Growth

Cleanspark, a Nasdaq-listed bitcoin mining company, has announced its venture into Mississippi by acquiring three operational bitcoin mining sites, along with an additional site in Dalton, Georgia, currently under construction. This strategic expansion, costing $19.8 million in cash, aims to bolster the company’s mining capabilities by approximately 3.2 exahash per second (EH/s), with the Mississippi sites contributing 2.4 EH/s and the Dalton site expected to add another 0.8 EH/s upon completion.

CEO Zach Bradford expressed excitement about the company’s growth and the opportunity to triple their hashrate in Dalton without significantly increasing overhead costs. With these new acquisitions and the expansion of its existing Dalton mining campus, Cleanspark aims to exceed 20 EH/s by the first half of 2024, enhancing its operational efficiency and strengthening community ties. This move is poised to position Cleanspark as a formidable player in the bitcoin mining industry ahead of the anticipated halving event.

Fed ends enforcement action into SBF-linked Farmington Bank

The Federal Reserve is ending its enforcement action into the Sam Bankman-Fried linked Farmington Bank.

The announcement came after the Fed said that the Bank had wound down operations and “no longer functions as a bank.”

“The Board’s enforcement action, which has been in effect since July 2023, ensured the bank’s operations would wind down in a manner that protected the bank’s depositors,” a press release said.

When the Fed announced in August that it had taken action against Farmington, it said Farmington had “improperly” changed its business model and failed to inform the central bank. It also named FBH Corporation, its holding company, in the now-terminated…

Tokens are going multichain, and it’s getting easier

Launching a token on any given blockchain is generally not difficult or complicated. But launching a token across multiple chains has been more of a challenge.

Referring to a “native chain” in contrast to a “bridged” or “wrapped” version of a token is the status quo today.

A new service from general message passing protocol Axelar aims to change that, making it trivially easy to launch tokens on any or all of its supported networks with no coding skills required.

Called the Interchain Token Service (ITS), the new tool maintains the fungibility and properties of any ERC-20 token, while allowing them to move across any of the EVM-compatible blockchains in Axelar’s orbit —…

Bitcoin Mining And ERCOT – The Data Tells The Story

Several headlines recently described a 25% drop in bitcoin network difficulty during Winter Storm Finn in January. Most attributed this drop to curtailment activity in Texas. While Texas does represent 17% of the global bitcoin hashrate, ERCOT data shows that some of the curtailment activity was a combination of higher prices and “good grid citizenship.” In ERCOT, and to a lesser extent in other ISOs, prices are the best proxy for grid stress. There are other proxies such as PRC (physical responsive capability) but prices are a better measure for most situations. For that reason, in order to prevent swings in prices and create more challenging gird conditions, an optimal environment…

Tokenized, Inc: BlackRock's Plan To Own The Fractionalized World

Just one day after the January 11 approval of 11 Bitcoin spot ETFs – including BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) – by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, BlackRock Chair and CEO Larry Fink sat down with Bloomberg’s David Westin to discuss the implications of the world’s largest asset manager entering the Bitcoin market. Not one to mince words, Fink articulated a clear framework for his company’s approach to Bitcoin, and furthermore for BlackRock’s intention to replicate similar ETF products for other assets. “If we can ‘ETF’ a Bitcoin, imagine what we can do with all financial instruments.” Fink continued, speaking about Bitcoin itself, stating “I don’t…

This collaboration marks a milestone by enabling customers to buy cryptocurrency directly through Robinhood’s cost-effective order system via MetaMask’s Buy Crypto feature. Aimed at bolstering web3 adoption, this integration simplifies and secures the process for users to onboard into the web3 space while maintaining full control over their digital assets.

MetaMask users now have the convenience of purchasing crypto through Robinhood Connect. This service aggregates various crypto buying options, offering Robinhood’s customers a streamlined and straightforward way to acquire cryptocurrencies from multiple providers.

Lorenzo Santos, Senior Product Manager at Consensys, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating it significantly reduces barriers for individuals seeking a self-custodial route to access cryptocurrencies. He noted the public’s growing desire for greater control and ownership over their digital presence and assets.

Seong Lee, Head of Product at Robinhood Crypto, highlighted Robinhood’s commitment to easing the web3 adoption process. He explained that Robinhood Connect facilitates a seamless experience for Robinhood customers to fund their self-custody wallets using various payment methods, enabling immediate use of their purchased crypto.

Robinhood grows self-custody wallet integrations with MetaMask partnership

Robinhood Connect, the wallet on-ramp launched by the investing and trading platform, has integrated with the self-custodial wallet app MetaMask.

Consensys, the company behind MetaMask, and Robinhood announced the partnership Tuesday morning.

MetaMask wallet users will be able to purchase crypto through the financial services company’s order engine. Robinhood Connect launched in April 2023, allowing users to buy crypto via Robinhood outside of their Crypto accounts.

The marriage is an unwieldy one at first blush: Robinhood’s Web3 wallet began allowing in-app swaps on the Ethereum network, typically MetaMask’s turf, in August of last year.

But Lorenzo Santos, senior product…
