Bitcoin is trading on ETF news, but analysts caution on macro headwinds

As stocks trended down on the first trading day of 2024, analysts speculate about what the rest of the month will look like for equities markets and crypto prices.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indexes dipped Tuesday, losing 0.7% and 1.9%, respectively, toward the end of the trading session. While the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed to stay relatively flat, the Russell 200 slipped 0.7%.

The decline doesn’t bode well for the sky-high prices analysts expected.

Goldman Sachs last month increased its S&P 500 target by 8% to 5,100 by the end of 2024, citing Federal Reserve rate cuts and declining inflation as key tailwinds. Strategists surveyed by Bloomberg reported a slightly…

LATEST: Jim Cramer’s Praise for Bitcoin: A Technological Marvel That’s Here to Stay

In a surprising about-face, Jim Cramer, the renowned financial commentator, has publicly endorsed the resilience and potential of Bitcoin on CNBC, marking a dramatic shift from his previous skepticism. Cramer’s unexpected change of heart has sent ripples through the cryptocurrency community. Known for his outspoken and occasionally controversial views, Cramer stated, “This thing is… You can’t kill it,” expressing his regret that the late Charlie Munger failed to recognize Bitcoin’s value. He hailed it as a “technological marvel” and a permanent fixture in the financial landscape, despite regulatory challenges from the SEC.

Cramer also emphasized the significance of Sam Bankman-Fried’s downfall as a pivotal moment in shaping the trajectory of cryptocurrencies. Interestingly, he approached the potential approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF with caution, suggesting it might trigger a sell-off instead of the anticipated bullish surge.

However, Cramer’s credibility is met with skepticism, given his history of inaccurate forecasts, including a recent prediction of a Bitcoin downturn. This abrupt change in stance adds a fascinating layer to the ongoing debate about Bitcoin’s future in the financial world.

Visa-backed crypto project to launch ‘fair’ token offering instead of ICO

Web3 entertainment platform Playbux will be raising $150,000 from the public via a token sale later this month. Rather than securing the funding through an initial coin offering, Playbux is giving pre-listing access to engaged users of the platform through a so-called fair community offering. This will be handled by crypto investing platform Raiser.

The fair community offering (FCO) creates a ranking of a project’s users based on things like on-chain activity, referring other users, taking educational quizzes and following its X profile, Raiser co-founder Kori Leon said. Based on their ranking, users have a chance to invest in some amount of a project’s token before its listing on…

Solana marketing ploy leads to proliferation of scams

Solana advocates like to drive home the merits of relatively cheap transaction fees on the blockchain, especially in relation to gas paid in ether, on Ethereum mainnet.

A new marketing campaign tokenizes that narrative in the form of LFG, or LessFnGas, which launched on New Year’s Day.

The project targets Ethereum users who have spent at least 2 ether (ETH) in gas fees, offering them LFG tokens through an airdrop. Holders of eligible wallets can specify a Solana address to receive the newly created token.

As of 9 am ET, the project said on X that more than 45,000 wallets had claimed the LFG token.

But while the airdrop itself was promoted by Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko,…

Fees, seeds and APs: What we know — and don’t know — about the planned bitcoin ETFs

Fund issuers have been submitting amendments to their spot bitcoin ETF applications for weeks, revealing key details to the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the investing public.

The latest flurry of updates was on Dec. 29, and a Grayscale Investments amendment came through on Tuesday — just days ahead of a potential SEC decision.

More amendments are expected in the coming days, but here’s what the documents are telling us — and not telling us — so far.

Some authorized participants revealed

Asset management goliath BlackRock listed Jane Street and JPMorgan Securities as its authorized participants in a Dec. 29 filing. Fidelity tapped the same entities for that…

Bitcoin's Role In Global Healthcare Access

Like so many industries today, the medical sector is seeing increasing global engagement. Patients aren’t just limited to the health and dental care that’s available on their doorstep. Medical facilities can effectively connect to consumers from across the planet. This has created a thriving medical tourism market.

It should come as no surprise that greater freedom of choice in healthcare is being supported by decentralized currency solutions. More than ever before, patients and facilities are using Bitcoin, in particular, for treatment payments.

Let’s look a little closer at this trend.

Facilitating Access To Wellness

One of the key challenges facing patients today is a lack of…

Privacy is going mainstream – Blockworks

Developments from the latest quiet phase of the crypto market cycle point to privacy being front and center during this next bull run. Web3 is evolving in many different and promising directions — from much needed scalability to increased regulatory clarity — and privacy has always been one of its main priorities.

All the great work around privacy solutions built in the bear market will come to the fore in 2024. More importantly, privacy features that are unique to the space will become available to end-users.

All of the above should lead to one thing and one thing only: a stellar user experience.

What we learned in 2023: The need for (balanced) end-user privacy

This year, we saw a…

LATEST: Matrixport Predicts Bitcoin to Hit $50,000, A Surge Fueled by ETFs and Supply Scarcity

Matrixport, a leading cryptocurrency financial services platform, forecasts a significant rise in Bitcoin’s value, targeting $50,000 by January. This bold prediction follows Bitcoin’s recent surge to $45,849, a 21-month high, fueled by a 7.56% increase in 24 hours. Key factors driving this optimism include the potential approval of Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), increasing institutional interest, and a notable supply shortage.

The report from Matrixport highlights the imminent possibility of Bitcoin spot ETF approvals, which could substantially boost Bitcoin’s price by legitimizing it in institutional portfolios. Additionally, the scarcity of Bitcoin on exchanges, exacerbated by recent crypto exchange incidents and mining company strategies, is expected to intensify demand.

Matrixport draws on historical data showing Bitcoin’s strong performance during U.S. election years and halving cycles, further supporting their ambitious forecast. This bullish outlook sets the stage for a pivotal moment in Bitcoin’s journey, as the market eagerly anticipates its potential climb to $50,000.

Crypto prices soar while stocks falter on first trading day of 2024

Crypto prices started the new year in the green while stocks faltered on the first trading day of 2024.

Bitcoin and ether inched higher Tuesday, extending gains that saw bitcoin surpass $45,000 for the first time since April 2022 on Monday. Bitcoin (BTC) was hovering around $45,400 Tuesday after the open, up close to 3% in 24 hours and 7% over the past five days.

Ether (ETH) gained 1% Tuesday, trading around $2,400 after flirting with the $2,500 level earlier in the week.

Analysts attribute bitcoin’s rally to — perhaps misplaced — optimism that a bitcoin exchange-traded fund will get the green light from the US Securities and Exchange Commission this week.
