NEW: Hong Kong to Introduce Spot Crypto ETF Trading by April End

Hong Kong is poised to launch its first spot crypto ETFs by the end of April, closely following trends in the United States. This initiative marks a significant step in the region’s commitment to the cryptocurrency sector. The forthcoming ETFs, including Bitcoin and Ethereum options, are part of Hong Kong’s broader strategy to establish itself as a leader in the tightly regulated virtual asset market. The debut, set for April 30, is the result of over a year’s efforts by the city to enhance its stature as a global financial hub, according to a HashKey spokesperson in an interview with Bloomberg.

The city, which already allows trading in futures crypto ETFs like CSOP Bitcoin Futures, CSOP Ether Futures, and Samsung Bitcoin Futures, aims to expand its offerings with these spot crypto ETFs. Despite the modest $175 million currently managed by the futures ETFs, projections suggest the new spot ETFs could manage around $1 billion by 2026, per Bloomberg Intelligence ETF Analyst Rebecca Sin. This development is anticipated to significantly bolster Hong Kong’s reputation and influence in the international financial landscape.

NEW: Bitcoin Surpasses Tesla Stock for First Time Since 2019

Bitcoin has significantly outperformed Tesla over the past five years, achieving a staggering 1,180% increase in value compared to Tesla’s 806%, according to TradingView data. Recent performance also favors Bitcoin, with a 139% rise in the past year against Tesla’s 11% decline. Year-to-date figures further highlight Bitcoin’s dominance, showing a 49% gain, while Tesla’s stock fell by 42%. This remarkable growth has elevated Bitcoin to the world’s ninth-largest asset with a $1.3 trillion market cap, surpassing giants like Meta Platforms and Berkshire Hathaway.

Tesla, an early adopter of Bitcoin, initially invested over $1.5 billion in 2021 but missed out on potential profits exceeding $1.27 billion by selling about 75% of its holdings in 2022. Currently, Tesla holds 11,509 BTC worth over $766 million. The surge in Bitcoin’s value is largely attributed to the introduction of ten U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs this year, which have significantly bolstered its status as a major asset class, amassing over 835,000 BTC valued at approximately $55.1 billion.

Ripple proposes ‘no more than $10M’ in penalties after SEC seeks $1.9B

Ripple Labs pushed back against the Securities and Exchange Commission’s request for the court to impose nearly $2 billion in fines.

“In a case that had no allegations (or findings) of recklessness or fraud, and in which Ripple won on significant issues, the SEC’s ask is just more evidence of its ongoing intimidation against all of crypto in the US,” Ripple’s Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty said in a post on X.

In the filing, Ripple argued that the SEC didn’t allege “fraud, deceit” or manipulation and the case failed to “show that Ripple recklessly disregarded the law.”

Instead, Ripple argued, the court should impose a penalty of “no more than $10…
