KyberSwap hacker offers $4.6 million bounty for return of $46 million loot

The decentralized exchange KyberSwap has offered a 10% bounty reward to the hacker who stole $46 million on Nov. 22 and left a note of negotiation. The exchange wants 90% of the loot returned by 6am UTC on Nov.25.

On Nov. 23, KyberSwap alerted users that its liquidity solution, KyberSwap Elastic, was compromised and advised them to withdraw funds. In the meantime, on Nov. 22, the hacker made away with roughly $20 million in Wrapped Ether (wETH), $7 million in wrapped Lido-staked Ether (wstETH) and $4 million in Arbitrum (ARB). The hacker then siphoned the loot across multiple chains, including Arbitrum, Optimism, Ethereum, Polygon and Base.

CASPs should work on protocol interoperability, self-hosted wallets

The European Union’s banking regulator, the European Banking Authority (EBA), wants to update existing anti-money laundering rules and focus on combatting the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) for crypto providers. 

In a consultation paper published on Nov. 24, the EBA explains that current European regulations are no longer sufficient to govern AML/CFT standards compliance among crypto providers. The proposed new industry guidelines are intended to address these issues, and the EBA has given interested parties until Feb. 26, 2024 to comment.

As crypto community members celebrated Thanksgiving, many expressed gratitude for the progress of the digital asset space over the years. 

From comparing price points for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) last year to sharing their Thanksgiving conversations about BTC, crypto users exchanged their musings on X (formerly Twitter) for the holiday.

Cathie Wood’s ARK dumps 700K GBTC shares in one month

Cathie Wood’s investment firm ARK Invest has sold 700,000 shares of the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) over the past month, even as Bitcoin (BTC) hit 17-month highs over excitement for a possible spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).

The ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW) sold 36,168 GBTC shares on Nov. 22, offloading a total of 697,768 GBTC since Oct. 23, according to ARK’s daily trading data seen by Cointelegraph.

ARKW offloaded roughly $1 million in GBTC as Grayscale’s trust traded around $30 on Nov. 22, closing at $30.50, per Google Finance data. United States markets closed on Nov. 23 for Thanksgiving.

Nansen phishing emails flood crypto investors’ inboxes

Numerous users of the crypto analytics platform Nansen have received phishing emails from scammers pitching an “exclusive opportunity” to participate in the fictitious “Nansen Airdrop.”

On Nov. 23, crypto community members on X (formerly Twitter) flagged an ongoing phishing campaign targeting Nansen users. The scammers are impersonating Nansen and sending fake invitations to an exclusive airdrop event.

Cointelegraph confirmed the hack from crypto investigator Officer’s Notes (Officercia), who initially warned the community about the ongoing attack. He suspects that user data from a previous third-party database leak is being used to target Nansen users.

LATEST: Austria’s Raiffeisen Bank Set to Offer Bitcoin Trading in Early 2024

Austria’s Raiffeisen Bank International, a significant player in the financial sector, is set to offer cryptocurrency trading services, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, to its clients in Vienna by January 2024. In collaboration with an european crypto exchange Bitpanda, the service targets tech-savvy customers, focusing on smaller investments. The user-friendly app integration allows seamless crypto trading, akin to regular bank transfers. This initiative aligns with Europe’s increasing regulatory clarity in the digital asset sector, further solidifying the growing adoption and interest in cryptocurrencies among traditional financial institutions.

Singapore to restrict retail crypto speculation with new rules

In response to the feedback received on its proposed Digital Payment Token (DPT) regulations, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) laid down measures for DPT service providers to discourage speculation in cryptocurrency investments.

The de-facto central bank of Singapore, MAS, announced five ways DPT service providers can help retail clients avoid price speculation. DPT service providers must determine their customer’s risk awareness before offering crypto services. In addition, DPT service providers were advised against providing any incentives to trade in cryptocurrencies. Thirdly, DPT service providers cannot offer financing, margin or leverage transactions.

Wallet of Satoshi vanishes from Apple and Google’s US app stores

Bitcoin (BTC) Lightning payments app Wallet of Satoshi (WoS) has disappeared from Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store in the United States as it closes in on over 1 million transactions for November.

On Nov. 24, several users and crypto community participants shared on X (Twitter) their attempts to search for the WoS app, which turned up no results or redirected users to competing wallet apps.
