Human Rights Foundation Grants $500,000 To 18 Bitcoin Projects Worldwide

Today, the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) announced its most recent round of Bitcoin Development Fund grants, per a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine. The money is being granted to 18 projects focusing on global education, Bitcoin Core development, mining decentralization, and allowing developers in closed societies to participate and present at industry conferences.

This announcement comes only a few months after their last round of grants in late September, also donating $500,000 to worldwide Bitcoin projects. While the HRF did not disclose exactly how much money each project is receiving, the following 18 projects are the recipients of today’s round of grants worth $500,000:

Crypto firm 7RCC applies for spot Bitcoin ETF with an eco-friendly twist

7RCC, a company that “specializes in developing solutions for ESG-conscious investors,” has applied for a spot Bitcoin ETF that provides a carbon-neutral investment option in the crypto space. 

According to the application filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the ETF will focus on catering to investors who adhere to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. Because of this, the ETF will be 80% Bitcoin (BTC) and 20% carbon credit futures.

Cathie Wood’s ARK dumps 800K Grayscale Bitcoin Trust shares

ARK Invest, one of the applicants for a spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States, has continued to dump its holdings of Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) stock with the sale of yet another significant batch of shares.

On Dec. 18, ARK sold 809,441 GBTC from its ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW), according to a trade notification seen by Cointelegraph. Based on the closing share price of $34.5, the sale is worth $27.9 million, according to data from TradingView.

This latest divestment further reduces ARK’s exposure to Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, with GBTC inching closer to dropping out of the list of ARKW’s top three holdings.

OpenAI launches ‘Preparedness Team’ for AI safety, gives board final say

The artificial intelligence (AI) developer OpenAI has announced it will implement its “Preparedness Framework,” which includes creating a special team, to evaluate and predict risks. 

On Dec. 18, the company released a blog post saying that its new “Preparedness Team” will be the bridge that connects safety and policy teams working across OpenAI.

It said these teams providing almost a checks-and-balances-type system will help protect against “catastrophic risks” that could be posed by increasingly powerful models. OpenAI said it would only deploy its technology if it were deemed safe.
