Newly Revealed Satoshi Email Correspondence with Martti Malmi

Satoshi Nakamoto’s earliest collaborator Martii ‘Sirius’ Malmi has released his entire email correspondence with Bitcoin’s creator.

Spurred by an ongoing lawsuit in the U.K., the new emails are the most significant addition to the canon of what we know about Bitcoin’s still anonymous creator.

Here are the most important new findings.

EMAIL #1: SATOSHI’S BITCOIN SCALING ASSUMPTIONS

The full email correspondence between Hashcash inventor Adam Back and Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto is now public after being entered into the official court records in the U.K. this week.

Detailed in the five emails below is the complete conversation between Nakamoto and Back, who was cited in the seminal Bitcoin white paper. In the emails, the two cryptography heavyweights can be seen for the first time discussing the work.

RIOT PLATFORMS AND TEXAS BITCOIN COUNCIL SEEK INJUCTION AGAINST EIA SURVEY

Today at 11:30a in Waco, Texas, the Texas Blockchain Council and Riot Platforms, Inc., asked a Federal District Judge Alan Albright for a temporary restraining order blocking the Energy Information Administration from enforcing their “emergency” survey.

At that hearing, the attorneys for the Government offered a voluntary declaration by EIA Administrator DeCarolis, offering a four-week pause on enforcement and collection. Judge Albright, recognizing that the Government’s offer here was little more than an empty promise without some sort of enforcement mechanism, directed the Government to work with the Plaintiffs to craft a negotiated order that would fully bind the Government to:

How the halving could impact bitcoin’s price

The fourth Bitcoin halving is just around the corner.

The event happens every four years. This year’s event will cut block rewards to 3.215 bitcoin down from 6.25 bitcoin, a roughly 50% drop.

The halving is likely to take place on April 19, meaning there are roughly 8,600 bitcoin blocks until the event.

The previous halvings saw bitcoin hit highs, with bitcoin topping $1,000 following the 2012 halving and $20,000 after the 2016 halving.

The most recent halving, which took place in 2020, preceded bitcoin hitting its all-time high of $69,000.

But the jump in price didn’t happen overnight. In some cases it took months for bitcoin to climb to new highs, though that doesn’t mean…

The Uniswap Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the growth of decentralized exchange Uniswap, is proposing an upgrade to the Uniswap Protocol Governance so that its fee mechanisms will reward UNI token holders.

Scaling Liberty: Bitcoin's Tension Between Ideology and Adoption

Since its inception over 15 years ago, Bitcoin has captured the imagination of libertarians, anarchists, and a variety of other advocates of individual liberty and financial sovereignty. Yet as Bitcoin gains mainstream traction, there are more and more signs it may be shedding its revolutionary roots. The exponential growth in users and market value has corresponded with a dilution of the liberty-oriented ethos that initially defined the technology. In a future…
