LATEST: Telegram Introduces Toncoin-Powered Ad Purchases for User Monetization

Telegram has unveiled a new feature allowing users to purchase in-platform advertisements using Toncoin, as part of its latest user monetization update. The update allocates 50% of ad revenue from public Telegram channels to their respective owners. Users can now promote their channels by spending minimal amounts of Toncoin, with the freedom to select specific channels for their TON-powered ads. Additionally, channel owners can withdraw their rewards without fees, with withdrawal services set to launch on Telegram’s Fragment exchange in the coming weeks.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov had hinted at this update on his personal channel, revealing that despite channels generating over 1 trillion monthly views, only 10% have been monetized with Telegram ads thus far. Durov expressed optimism about this move, foreseeing a cycle where content creators can either cash out their Toncoins or reinvest them to enhance their channels. The choice of the TON Blockchain was justified by its low fees, high transaction speeds, and record-breaking performance of 100,000 transactions per second during a test in November.
