Bulgaria’s historic Botev Plovdiv FC has embraced Bitcoin and the Lightning Network for fan payments, making them pioneers in the football industry. Fans can now use Bitcoin for peer-to-peer transactions at fan shops and matches, with plans to extend this to ticketing and the online store. The move was made possible through a partnership with BTCPay Server and CryptoDesk.bg. The club’s president expressed optimism about the Lightning Network’s potential. This initiative follows a trend, with UK-based Real Bedford being the world’s first football club to adopt Bitcoin. Football’s growing Bitcoin adoption aims to enhance financial responsibility in the sport.
