LATEST: BlackRock Announces Plans to Incorporate Spot Bitcoin ETFs into Global Allocation Fund Assets

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has revealed plans to include spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in its Global Allocation Fund. This decision underlines BlackRock’s belief in Bitcoin’s value, as it seeks to reflect Bitcoin’s price performance directly by holding Bitcoin ETPs, including those sponsored by BlackRock affiliates. The move comes amidst the burgeoning success of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which saw unprecedented inflows and now manages $12.7 billion in Bitcoin, especially after Bitcoin’s price soared past $69,000. Not stopping at Bitcoin, BlackRock is also eyeing the launch of a spot Ethereum ETF, signaling its broader commitment to cryptocurrency. This strategic inclusion in BlackRock’s portfolio, alongside its existing and potential future crypto offerings, hints at an increasingly crypto-friendly stance within the mainstream financial sector, possibly setting a precedent for other large institutions.

GBTC has been an outlier within the 10-fund US spot bitcoin ETF segment given its 1.5% fee that is significantly higher than competitors.

LATEST: Ether Could Double in Price to Over $10,000 in 2024, Says Bitwise Analyst

Ether (ETH) has been overshadowed by Bitcoin (BTC) in recent months, but according to Juan Leon, a crypto research analyst at Bitwise, ETH could more than double in price in 2024. Leon predicts that ETH could surpass $8,000 or even $10,000 this year, driven by two major catalysts.

The upcoming Dencun upgrade in Ethereum will reduce transaction costs on layer 2 networks, potentially attracting mainstream consumer demand. Additionally, the prospect of spot ether exchange-traded fund (ETF) approvals, with a regulatory decision expected in May, brings excitement to the market. Despite uncertain approval odds, Leon estimates a 50%-60% chance and anticipates a boost in ether’s appeal among institutional investors.

Ether’s deflationary supply, staking surge led by EigenLayer, and growing decentralized finance (DeFi) activity also contribute to its bullish outlook. While Bitcoin recently achieved new all-time highs, ETH is still around 20% below its 2021 peak. However, historical trends suggest that ETH tends to rally after Bitcoin breaks new records, indicating potential for ETH to surge once BTC surpasses $69,000.

Web Traffic Dynamics of Crypto Exchanges

The digital currency realm is experiencing a remarkable influx of web traffic, with February’s figures painting a bullish picture for crypto exchanges. Notably, Coinbase, a leading exchange, has registered a 2.3% increase in web traffic, translating to a substantial 41 million visits. This surge showcases the burgeoning confidence of investors in the crypto economy.

Even more impressive is the 39% spike in user engagement for Bitget, signaling an undeniable investor interest in diversifying portfolios within the digital asset space. Other platforms like HTX are not far behind, celebrating a 9.8% growth, equivalent to 20 million visits.

This data isn’t just a set of numbers; it’s the pulse of an accelerating industry. Crypto exchanges are steadily carving out a significant niche in the financial sector, with their rising web traffic suggesting a robust and healthy ecosystem ready to welcome the future of finance. The trend underlines a simple truth: the digital currency exchanges are not just surviving; they’re thriving.

LATEST: Arkham Data Reveals Elon Musk’s Firms Tesla and SpaceX Hold Over $1.3 Billion in Bitcoin

Reports from on-chain analysts reveal that wallets associated with Elon Musk-owned companies Tesla and SpaceX hold well over a billion dollars in Bitcoin. Arkham Intelligence detailed findings of over $771 million BTC in Tesla’s wallets and approximately $555 million BTC in SpaceX’s wallets. The analysis also traces the transaction history of both firms, highlighting significant sales during the onset of the 2022 crypto winter.

During the market downturn in May 2022, both Tesla and SpaceX sold off substantial amounts of BTC, incurring losses for SpaceX but leaving Tesla nearly breaking even. However, SpaceX returned to profit in November, coinciding with Bitcoin’s current bull run, with Arkham estimating profits of $132 million for SpaceX and $455 million for Tesla. These findings shed light on the extent of Musk-owned companies’ Bitcoin holdings, which had been previously underestimated.

While Musk’s interest in cryptocurrencies is well-known, including Tesla’s brief acceptance of Bitcoin payments for car purchases in 2021, the magnitude of SpaceX’s Bitcoin investment had remained undisclosed. Despite fluctuations and controversies surrounding Musk’s crypto endeavors, the revelation of substantial Bitcoin holdings underscores the tech mogul’s ongoing involvement and influence in the cryptocurrency market.
