The Hong Kong Stock Exchange marked a significant milestone with the debut of six spot bitcoin and ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs), positioning itself as a burgeoning hub for cryptocurrency. Today’s listings include a variety of funds managed by key players such as China Asset Management, Harvest Global, Bosera, and HashKey, including the Bosera HashKey Bitcoin ETF and Harvest Bitcoin Spot ETF among others. These ETFs, available to investors within Hong Kong and qualified investors abroad (excluding Chinese mainland residents), highlight the region’s ongoing commitment to diversifying and enhancing its financial markets.
This move follows the earlier success of futures-based crypto ETFs and aims to attract a broader investor base by allowing in-kind transactions. Investors can now directly exchange bitcoin or ether for ETF shares, enhancing liquidity and providing more flexibility in investment strategies. According to Brian Roberts from HKEX, the introduction of these spot ETFs not only expands product variety but also capitalizes on the increasing interest in digital assets, evidenced by the notable rise in net inflows and trading volumes compared to last year.
