LATEST: Mexican Senator Pushes for Bitcoin’s Legal Recognition in Mexico

Senator Indira Kempis is gaining attention in Mexico’s political arena for her Bitcoin-focused agenda. Initially proposing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) bill, she now advocates for Bitcoin’s recognition as legal tender in Mexico. Representing Nuevo León, Kempis modified her bill to include Bitcoin after criticism from the crypto community. Despite facing opposition, she views the recent installation of a Bitcoin ATM in the Mexican Senate as a positive sign. Kempis plans to run for the presidency in 2024, prioritizing Bitcoin advocacy and public education. However, Mexico’s Central Bank has yet to take a formal stance on cryptocurrency.
