LATEST: Spanish Bank BBVA Offers Crypto Trading And Custody Through Its Mobile App

Spanish banking giant BBVA has started offering bitcoin and ether trading and custody services for retail customers directly through its mobile app. The service is available to all customers of legal age in Spain, following regulatory approval from the National Securities Market Commission in March 2025. BBVA allows users to buy, sell, and hold crypto-assets within its secure digital banking platform, without relying on third-party platforms.

The bank aims to make crypto investing easy and safe for retail customers. Transactions are fully integrated into the BBVA app, allowing customers to manage their crypto-assets independently. BBVA provides no investment advice but offers the security of its trusted infrastructure. The service meets EU Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation standards, ensuring compliance across member states.

BBVA had launched crypto services in Switzerland in 2021 and in Turkey in 2023. With Spain added in 2025, BBVA continues its push for digital innovation. The bank plans to expand its crypto offerings, including more crypto-assets and tokenised traditional assets like bonds and funds in the future.
