Banca Sella, an Italian banking group managing around €34 billion, has become the first Italian bank authorized to offer crypto-related services. It completed the notification process with the Bank of Italy under the EU’s MiCA regulation, gaining approval for crypto-asset custody, transfer, and receipt services.
The bank, part of the long-established Sella Group, plans to launch these regulated services by the end of 2026, initially targeting selected corporate and institutional clients. This marks a significant step in integrating digital assets within traditional banking under European compliance standards.
Banca Sella has previously experimented with blockchain and crypto pilots, including stablecoin custody trials. The approval positions it as a pioneer among Italian banks in offering compliant crypto services.
